My Story
Hi, I’m Trent, and welcome to my website!
I’m a passionate author who adores crafting captivating stories about men finding love. My writing revolves around engaging character-driven plots with an element of supernatural and suspense added to the mix. The love story between Cody and Jack, the two main protagonists in my debut novel, “Lost In the Past,” embodies everything I love about a great gay romance story. I am very proud that it is the first book in my captivating “Slipping Through Time” series.
Growing up in rural northeast Ohio, just outside the charming town of Wooster, I was an avid bookworm. With my nose perpetually buried in books, I eagerly awaited the Bookmobile’s weekly visit to my elementary school. I gravitated toward science fiction, fantasy, the supernatural, and time-related themes back then.
My first visit to an actual library was an absolute delight, as it gave me access to a variety of book choices. I distinctly remember checking out stacks at a time. My junior high and high school days involved voraciously devouring the works of J. R. R. Tolkien, Frank Herbert, Ray Bradbury, and Andre Norton. Within those library walls, I stumbled upon my first gay-themed book, a remarkable discovery for a young teenage boy like myself.
On some level, I always knew I had an attraction to guys. During my younger years, I would linger over the catalog pages featuring male models in underwear. Initially, I convinced myself it was merely a desire to resemble them. However, my perspective shifted when I came across “The Man Who Folded Himself” by David Gerrold at the library. This novel revolves around a boy who inherits a time-travel belt and encounters different versions of himself. This book served as an enlightening revelation, letting me know I wasn’t alone in my feelings toward other boys.
College life offered my first taste of independence. Even though it was another small town in Ohio—Bowling Green—it liberated me from the sheltered environment of my childhood. The experience exposed me to many diverse people and adventures. It was during this time that I delved into the vibrant college nightlife scene, perhaps a bit too enthusiastically. Nevertheless, my passion for reading never waned. It was in college that I stumbled upon my first gay romance novel by Gordon Merrick. I vividly remember the mixture of exhilaration and trepidation as I purchased it. The cover, featuring two beautiful, half-naked men lying next to each other, left no doubt about the book’s contents. Some may consider the book trashy, but to me, it was a cherished tale of two men falling in love.
From that moment, I was hooked. I avidly sought out other gay-oriented books, and my discovery of Anne Rice’s “Interview With a Vampire” further deepened my literary exploration. The joy of finding gay bookstores was unparalleled. With so many new reading options, books geared to the gay audience were now my preference, with an occasional mainstream book thrown in.
After college, I blossomed into a proud gay activist. My friends and I marched, volunteered, and fought for various LGBTQ+ causes. It was at one of these events that I met my future husband, my love and life partner of over thirty years. Soon after, we moved to Tampa, where we found our dream bungalow, and it has been our home ever since.
We had the pleasure of having two beautiful Italian Greyhounds with us for a substantial part of our time together. Luck shined on us as one of them lived to just shy of his twentieth birthday. We have contemplated adding another furry companion to our lives. Especially when we run into someone walking another Italian Greyhound. For now, though, we are content in feeding the blue jays and gray squirrels that dwell in our backyard.
Growing up in the countryside instilled in me a profound appreciation for nature and the great outdoors. I relish hiking and capturing breathtaking scenery through photography. During my younger days, I dabbled in amateur photography with my trusty 35mm camera. Today, I appreciate the convenience of capturing impressive shots with a smartphone.
Despite Tampa not being a sprawling metropolis, I yearn for a more wooded setting and find myself ready to bid farewell to city life. The redwood forests of California hold a particular allure. While Astera Cove may exist solely within the pages of my books, I often daydream about calling it home. Cody’s house, nestled on the edge of the woods with the ocean as his backyard, or the Vance family cabin, surrounded by the majestic forest and overlooking the ocean, embodies the idyllic living I envision.
Until I find my own Astera Cove, I’ll continue crafting stories about it. I hope that you’ll come to cherish this fictional world and its inhabitants as much as I do.
